Camping:
There are lots of places to camp within the Park. It is first come first serve. Keep in mind the further the campground is from the entrance the more likely there are free sites. However Hidden Valley is my favorite.  Here are some locations:http://www.nps.gov/jotr/planyourvisit/camping.htm
If you are determined to camp and the sites are full there are two more options.
a. BLM land- Gus and I have camped here several times and love it. It's definitely Black Rock City Style meaning it is a basic minimal cracked desert floor and that's it. No restroom, No water, No plants, No shade. http://www.nps.gov/jotr/planyourvisit/loader.cfm?csModule=security/getfile&PageID=112595
b. Shangri-La Cabin & Studios- you are welcome to camp all through the night on the grounds of the party. Bring your tent! There is plenty of space.

Weather
It should be pretty hot.  Average temperature is 80deg so bring light clothes and sunscreen. http://myjoshuatree.net/weather.htm
Also it is prime bloom season! The desert should be at its most colorful/flower-filled this time of year. :)http://mojavedesert.net/wildflower/blooming-periods.html
